The MOON 491 is a fully
equipped network player,
preamplifier, DAC, phono stage, and
headphone amplifier designed to
handle digital and analog sources
with precision and versatility. As a
key component in the Compass
Collection, it is engineered to
deliver broad connectivity,
low-noise performance, and seamless
streaming and digital conversion,
while preserving signal integrity
with clarity and refinement.
At the core of the 491 is MOON’s
proprietary MiND 2 streaming
technology. It can operate as a UPnP
renderer, a Roon Ready endpoint, and
is compatible with AirPlay and
Bluetooth. The MOON MiND Controller
app for iOS and Android provides
access to major music services
including Qobuz, TIDAL, Deezer, and
Spotify. Playback and system
functions can be controlled through
the app, the front-panel buttons,
and the aluminium CRM-4 remote
control. The 491 also supports Qobuz
Connect, TIDAL Connect, and Spotify
Connect.
The integrated phono stage supports
both MM and MC cartridges
configurable via the on-screen menu
for loading, capacitance, gain, and
equalization options. This
adaptability enables cartridge
matching for optimized vinyl
playback.
The balanced analog preamplifier
features two line-level inputs.
One RCA and one balanced XLR—and one
phono input. Output is via variable
and fixed RCA connections, and a
variable balanced XLR connections,
as well as a ¼” headphone jack. The
large display indicates volume,
album art, and other information in
brilliant colour.
The 491 employs proprietary MOON
Hybrid Power (MHP) technology,
blending linear and switch-mode
technologies for ultra-stable,
low-noise DC power. Operating at
switching frequencies beyond the
audio band, it avoids contaminating
highly sensitive audio circuits,
resulting in a lower noise floor
with greater dynamic swings.
Housed in MOON’s signature black
chassis with bead-blasted aluminum
cheeks (black or silver), the 491
blends cutting-edge engineering with
timeless style.
